Homemade Pita Chips

I am a big fan of store-bought pita chips- or at least, I was, until I tried these homemade ones. They are an infinitely tastier and truer version of crispy pita. And they are pretty easy to make! My mom learned this trick from her good friend Barbara and it's been passed along to many family and friends.

The other benefits are that you can make 100% whole grain pita chips if you so desire (as Ross does) AND you can season them with whatever you like. Serve them with hummus or any dip you like. They are best just out of the oven (of course, what isn't?) but they keep just fine and still taste great at room temp.

ready to go in the oven!

Homemade Pita Chips

Ingredients:
  • pita bread
  • olive oil
  • salt
  • herbs of your choice (I like oregano, dried or fresh is fine)

Method:
  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Cut pitas in half and split them open all the way. (So from one round pita, you should have 4 half circles.)
  • Brush olive oil on the inner/cut side.
  • Cut into triangles (you can make a stack of the half circles and cut them at the same time. Don't do it that way if you want all perfect triangles, though.)
  • Lay out on baking sheet or wire rack in a single layer. Sprinkle with salt and herbs.
  • Bake about 10 minutes until crispy and browned.
  • Serve immediately.
