What Happens At Gay Wine Weekend... Is Too Delicious Not To Share With Others
Gay Wine Weekend (henceforth GWW) is an annual spring event which brings together a group of (my) long-time friends who are (mostly) gay men, plus a few women (of varying sexual preferences thankyouverymuch.) And yes, for the most part, what happens at GWW stays at GWW, but I figured the food and drink parts would be OK to share.
We tend to favor doing the wine tasting part of GWW in the California wine country's less-known Dry Creek Valley, and naturally we tend to favor doing it from the comforts of a sweet stretch limo. But it's not just about wine- for in addition to all of the winey goodness, the excellent card-playing skills, and lots of nap-taking prowess, the culinary talents of the group are exceedingly impressive.
So enjoy this tantalizing taste of GWW!
The morning before going wine tasting, Sasha prepared breakfast that included a blind bacon taste test: one from the Bacon of the Month Club we recently gifted him, and one from Safeway.

The results: ALL bacon is delicious.

And what better idea but to fry cracked wheat sourdough slices in some of that bacon grease? Transcendent!

On to the wineries! At the charming, mercifully unsnobby Everett Ridge Winery, you can cleanse your palate with cheesy poofs. Cartman would approve! Their sauvignon blanc is crisp, clean, and a great bargain- plus you can taste outside overlooking the vineyard.

grape buds at De La Montanya Winery- an exceedingly winsome, low-key winery with a luscious garden and bocce court. Their late harvest Zin is a fabulous, not-too-sweet dessert wine.

Quivira Winery specializes in Petite Syrah, and on Saturday Mother Nature was specializing in creating a perfectly sunny and warm spring day for us.

When you're in a limo and you're out of champagne- and all you've got is a bit of Budweiser- what do you do? Beerpagne! Tres classy. And yes, Bud tastes better in a champagne flute.

Upon returning home famished, Ben & TJ served these incredibly satistfying homemade beef and cheese empanadas. I ate way too many... no seriously WAAAAY too many.

Sunday brunch brought Jason's homemade crepes... and lots of hilarious flipping mishaps.

...with fixins for all the possible filling combinations you can think of. This one is rocking shredded chicken, pepper bacon, sauteed mushrooms, caramelized onions, mascarpone, and coarse basil pesto.

Of course, he's an overachiever so had to make this amuse bouche of crepe rolls with lox and salmon mousse as well.
