Thursday Restaurant Review Haikus: Cafe Gratitude
today in Thursday Restaurant Review Haikus:
Cafe Gratitude
I know I normally do a bunch of restaurants, but yesterday I did something so WEIRD, so UN-KAREN, so BIZARRE: I went to Cafe Gratitude. If you don't know what that is, it's a vegan raw food place. A frickin' VEGAN RAW FOOD PLACE. Yeah I'm yelling. It's crazy talk. So I decided just to haiku it all up about the experience since it was so, um, moving.

Cafe Gratitude
2400 Harrison St., San Francisco
website
other locations:
1336 9th Ave, San Francisco
1730 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley
2200 Fourth Street, San Rafael
it's vegan and raw,
obviously, my first time-
I went with a friend.
I drank a "milkshake"
which is just, like, ground up nuts.
(vegan- no milk stuff.)
so it's almonds, mint,
and cacao. O.K., but won't
bring boys to the yard.
also, expensive-
seven bucks a shake. What?!?! WHAT?!?!?
fancy organics...
the menu is odd-
embarrassing to order!
items all have names...
in an "I statement!"
example: soup might be called
"I am beautiful"
my shake had a name,
"I am cool." minty choc'late.
but I'm not convinced.
the raw thing is, well,
a little over the top,
in my kind of world.
and the vegan thing-
you know the bacon lover
in me won't have it.
still, I'm happy that
all the people in my town
are free and open
to eat how they like!
even if part of me thinks:
damn crazy hippies.

Here's why I do them in haikus.

Karen - you crack me up.
And surprise me! YOU - at Cafe Gratitude? Did you tell them who you were? Perhaps they'll name a savory dish in honor of you... I wonder what they'd call it?

Lizer her dish would be called "I am hungry"
