"The Prisoner" wine from Orin Swift Cellars: Delicious and Worth the Extra Dough

"The Prisoner" is Ross's favorite wine- and it's delicious. Usually we don't drink it because it's around $35/bottle, which is way more than the usual for us- we tend to have a tacit $10 or less rule for whites, and maybe a $15 or less rule for reds. Probably because of the copious consumption in our casa. It's just good economics, people.

So, why is it his favorite and why is it worth the (relatively) big bucks? Well, "The Prisoner" is an exceptional wine with a super fun history, and you should buy a bottle and drink it and learn the story and impress your friends. I am totally not a big red drinker, yet here I sit, sipping contentedly from my glass, delighting in this wine's multifarious virtues. It's not exactly ubiquitous but you can always check the internets for a triangulation on a bottle- or call a fancy schmancy wine store and ask if they have it. Plus, you can act all haughty if they don't know what you're talking about, which is a bonus in and of itself.

I don't excel at the whole, "knowing stuff about wine" thing, so I'm going to go ahead and point you to the terrific site Vinography for the really deep, wine-telligent, helpful review that will tell you about the wine in a way that is infinitely more useful and interesting than just having me say "it's gooooooood."(Now his post says $25/bottle and widely available, but I have found it to be more like $35... but his post is a couple years old so you never know. Or maybe I am just getting fleeced left and right.) Happy drinking!

UPDATE: the Vinography link in the post is his review of the 2003, but now you can check out his recent review of the 2006 The Prisoner as well!
