Random NYC Food Observations As Of Right This Very Moment
Here are a couple of quick food notes about my recent trip to NY:
- We ventured out of the city to see some friends at the wonderful Red Hat Bistro in Irvington NY. It's a converted brick boiler room with floor to ceiling views of the Hudson River- and conveniently, only a 30 minute train ride north of Manhattan. It's right by the train station so a pretty easy jaunt and such fun to get out of the city. With ex-Le Madeleine chef Bruce Beaty at the helm, the food is fabulous.
- There is a sweet new vegetarian restaurant called Quartino Bottega Organica in NoLiTa (Bleecker @ Elizabeth) that is adorable and has delicious coffee. I'll admit I was missing out on bacon and sausage but the vegetarians in our crowd loved it.
- I had forgotten about the wonders of Patel Grocery - an Indian superstore in Jackson Heights. If you can't get to India, get here. Then stop at Jackson Diner for a fantastic and cheap Indian buffet.
- I can't believe I didn't make it to Blue Ribbon Bakery this time. I never miss out on a trip there for Steak Tartare. Ever!
- Peter Luger still has the best steak in the world.
