A Temporary Paradigm Shift Portends

I have just realized that I have an insanely cool and crazy travel season coming up in November and December- so this is my way of saying:

a) be prepared for much more on the travel, eating out, and shopping type of entries than the cooking type of entries. (Although there will undoubtedly be some holiday season-related cooking action because that is also a time of cookies and cakes and parties and eating.)

and

b) entries will be a little spottier and probably less frequent.

So what fascinating foody/drinky/travely outings loom in my future? Let's take a pictorial walk-through of the upcoming plans!

  • A Long Weekend in Palm Springs
+

shopping for mid-century modern stuff (sure could use a credenza), the palm springs tramway, joshua tree, and all the swingin' rat-pack hangouts- I was all up in the ChowHound getting recommendations and making reservations for the best restaurants down there.

  • Thanksgiving in Kentucky
+     +

not just turkey this year- bluegrass, bourbon, and the already infamous Creation Museum (dinosaurs and people coexisting in dioramas!) are all on the agenda- plus lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of dogs!

  • Tagging Along to Tokyo
  +

super last minute and super can't wait! I'm going to try to take a cooking class there. I'm probably the only person in the world (except, um, for Japanese people) who loves the idea of being served raw fish for breakfast. I can't wait to experience the food and the fashionistas.

  • Freezing in China
  +  +
most people don't go to Beijing in the winter, because it's cold, and even fewer people head up to Outer Mongolia. But how can I resist such a grand spectacle as the Harbin Ice Festival? Turns out I can't. At least, in theory. Maybe I won't be able to leave my hotel room since I am such a cold wimp, but I thought ahead and got a room with a view of the ice. Clever, huh? And you know the food will be fabulous.

So be sure and stay tuned over the next couple of months, for a dizzying, dazzling array of food and fabulousness from around the world... and the occasional Christmas cookie or latke action!
