Please Send Me A Cannoli Gram

Having lived in NYC and spending a lot of time in Boston, I know a good cannoli. You can't have a really good cannoli UNLESS it's filled with cream right when you order it so the crispy shell doesn't have even a minute to get soggy.

Meet CannoliGram.com- an online service that sends you shells, a tub of custard, and a pastry bag in the mail! Crazy! I wonder if it's up to snuff. Just might have to send myself one, you know, for research. At $32.99 for 12 cannolis it's not much more expensive than Mulberry St. or the North End.

Hey, you should try Dianda's bakery. It was the go-to place for the old Italians back when I was a kid. The old owners died, the kids sold off the store, and now the relatives have it again and they are making the best Italian pastry around. There' one in SF and one in San Mateo, I think.

They can't make those awesome pink frosted cream puffs I remember from my youth, something to do with toxic dye. Thanks a lot, FDA bastards!

@ Rick: I frickin love Dianda's. The best thing there is the chocolate eclair. I have never had a better one. Also it's next door to La Taqueria- a perfect meal is a pineapple agua fresca, 1 carnitas and 1 carne asada taco, followed by a chocolate eclair (whipped cream or custard inside, you choose) and then take a nap. The nap is important because you will be very full after such a meal.

BTW: Dianda's is located at 2883 Mission St. between 24th and 25th Sts., closer to 25th, in San Francisco. The San Mateo location is at 117 DeAnza Blvd.
