It Definitely Ain't KFC

This is a week of new restaurants! Tonight we went to Spork with Sherry and Michael. It is housed in the old KFC space on Valencia Street between 21st and 22nd. But it's much much much lovelier than that KFC ever was. Last Saturday, we tried to to go have a bite there around 11 PM and the guy told us the kitchen had just closed. Nice guy though, and after talking to him for a bit we learned he (Neil) and his cousin (the chef, Bruce) are the co-owners. That just cemented our resolve to check the new neighborhood place out.

It was a delight. The decor is sparse but attractive. I had a burger that was "inside out"- ie, 2 patties surrounding a bun.  Oh yeah baby. That's what I'm talking about. The "pot brownie" dessert was fabulous. Service was unobstrusive but friendly, and at the end Neil totally gave us free port. Go Neil! You've won over your neighbors for sure.

Also, on the plus side they do serve you a fancy silver spork with some of the dishes. Nice continuity! So I want to encourage you all to go there and give love to those who take the time and effort to turn a Krappy KFC into a lovely eatery for our 'hood.

Because it was a major topic of conversation tonight, on a side note I ALSO want to encourage you to check out/ support/ donate all your extra money to the org that Sherry co-directs: an awesome, fresh art space here in the Mission, The Lab.

P.S. Once again hungry Karen was unable to snap the food photos. I can't help it. I love eating. I will do my best to work out a picture of something from Spork soon. If you were more resourceful, you'd just click on the link I gave you and see pictures on their website and stop hounding me.
